Run & Walk Group
 

Starting out running can be daunting, and keeping yourself motivated to continue running can be a mission (especially in winter!). Sorry, there are no short cuts! But if you take the time to build your running slowly, and develop strength and stability you will get to enjoy the “high” that comes with running - yes it does happen....

Our Thursday run/walk groups are for everyone and it does not matter if you are walking, just starting running, you have been jogging a little, or you run regularly – our runs and sessions are designed so that everyone can work at your own pace and enjoy the company of others at a similar fitness level and ability. We meet all year around and you can join in at any time. 

On one Thursday we have exercises and drills (at Cramner Square) then the following week we split into groups depending on distance and speed and run or walk around Hagley Park.  We call these: "Week 1"(drills and exercises) and "Week 2"(group run). 

It is all about starting running, keeping running, meeting others and picking up tips along the way. And most importantly, having fun while gaining fitness.

 

Running Group Details:
Meet in the car park of Contours City Club on the corner of Durham and Armagh Sts. 
The 'week 1' drill and exercise sessions - 6pm - 7pm are suitable for everyone - there will be options so you can work at your own pace. Remember it does not matter how fit you are, or how far you can run at present - you can do these sessions. The cost of this session is $5

The 'week 2' group run - 6pm - 7pm will also be for all levels and will split into groups depending on fitness levels. The only thing we ask is that no one gets left behind to run/walk or jog on their own. We suggest during the winter period you get yourself a headlamp, warm tights, a good jacket with reflective trim, or wear a reflective band, and gloves and a hat! Coaches –  Barbara Millar & Lou Connor
Barbara and Lou are both REPS qualified personal trainers. Barbara has background in swimming and running, and has been involved in triathlon and multisport for the past 20 years as a competitor, coach and organiser.  Lou has also been involved in multisport and triathlon for over 15 years in competing, organising events and coaching.
